Student Progress Report Template
A Student Progress Report is handed out to a student or their parents usually over the academic year or at certain periods over the school semester. For a child to see a full list of their grades over the academic year, they will be handed a Report Card Template which can be used to monitor specific elements of progress or behavior from year to year. In other cases, students may be issued a Weekly Student Progress Report or a Monthly Student Progress Report depending on what progress is being tracked.
No matter what type of Progress Report is used and what the purpose is, they will all generally follow the same structure. The report acts as a short summary of the academic progress that a student has made over a certain amount of time. The summary will include the grades that a student has received and any other relevant academic information. Depending on the age of the student, these reports can also include information about the behavior of the student. In fact, such reports may be issued to track the progress of behavior within an educational facility.

How to Write a Student Progress Report?
Creating and writing up an appropriate Student Progress Report is extremely important as it not only details the progress of the student, which is important to parents but it will also reflect on you as a teacher. Therefore we have combined a short list of things to take into account when writing up your Student Progress Report:
- Try to be as clear as possible . Do not make any general or ambiguous comments, this will make it seem like you do not know too much about the child or may raise unnecessary questions from the parents;
- Keep your language simple yet formal . Avoid using complex language because some parents may find it difficult to understand what you are trying to say. Of course as a teacher you want to give off the impression that you are educated and competent, but the best thing to do is keep a formal register whilst using simple language;
- Structure your comments using the "sandwich" structure . This means start off by talking about something positive, then bring in any negatives, and once again finish with a positive;
- Instead of just stating information about progress or behavior, give specific examples . If a student has made great progress in Math, in which area specifically? What could they not do at the start that they can do now with ease and confidence? The more specific you are, the better;
- Describe what steps the student can take to improve further - give your professional recommendations . This is your chance to show off your expertise and demonstrate to the parents and students your own pedagogical professionalism. Again, instead of making general comments you should always aim to give specific recommendations and suggest literature that could be of use. This could really help the student do better and accomplish more.
